Abigail Faye Jackson is a Texas-based oil painter whose work centers on Western and Mexican themes, with a particular focus on tenacious female subjects. Drawing inspiration from her travels, Mexican heritage, and, most importantly, the influential people in her life, her work explores the rich interplay of cultures and the deeper meanings found in everyday experiences. Having lived in Spain for two years, Jackson is especially interested in the legacy of Spanish colonialism and its lasting impact on both Mexican culture and the modern Western identity.
Although she had always been interested in art, it wasn’t until the loss of her brother while studying at Texas A&M that she turned to it as a means to navigate grief. After taking several traditional media art classes, Jackson developed a love for creating. However, it wasn’t until five years later that she truly began to focus on painting.
In January 2023, a pivotal moment occurred while she was working at a corporate job. A copy of Fort Worth Magazine landed on her desk, featuring a captivating cover image of a woman boldly seated on a horse, draped in a striking red dress. This image stirred something deep within her, compelling her to recreate it on canvas. Thus began her infatuation with painting the essence of the West.
Through her paintings, she seeks to capture the vibrant spirits of the diverse cultures that define Texas, highlighting the common threads that bind us together. Each brushstroke is a celebration of diversity, inviting viewers to explore the intricate tapestry of our shared heritage.
